Can I block specific apps from using mobile data?

I use the Centrify MDM, not sure what board that falls into. But I would like to force my users to use certain apps when only connected to a WiFi network.

Meaning, if they have Hulu installed, it will only fucntion if they connect to a Wifi network. If they are connected to the LTE networks, then Hulu would NOT function.

Hi @Slamdance,

 

We do have a policy for iOS devices but not for Android devices.

You can find the policy under Endpoint Policies->iOS Settings->Restrctions Settings->Network Configs for Managed Apps.

Click Add to specify the applications bundle id (e.g. com.hulu.plus) that you want to block from using cellular data.

But what is a bundle ID? I click Add, and it wants a bundle ID.

It is like an identifier for the app.

You can simply got it when you add the app to Centrify

Example:

bundle id.jpg

I believe the policy will only works when the app is managed through Centrify

Oh, well that won't work. I want to force users to use Wifi for streaming apps, but I sure don't want to Add the Apps to my policy, which would force install them on all my phones right?

If you have assigned Automatic installation for the app, then it will push the app to all the phones assigned, but the app are not installed automatically. Instead, the user is prompted to install each application you deploy.

Or maybe you can choose Optional installation for the app? So that is will not prompt the user to install the app and when user install it on their own, it will be managed.

 

 

If the user already have that app installed, they will be prompted to ask if they allow Centrify to manage their app no matter you have set Automatic/Optional install.

However, if they press no, then nothing we can do here.
